The breed originated in California, USA as the result of spontaneous mutation. The American Curl is a medium sized cat (5-10 lbs). It is a strong and healthy, and remarkably free of the genetic defects. The kittens are born with straight ears, which begin to curl within ten days. The coat is soft and silky and lies flat against the body.
